Struvite – A hard mineral scale which causes many process issues. Having struvite scale in a wastewater treatment system can lead to great inefficiency within the plant due to scale on lines and belts, in centrifuges and pumps, clogging of system pipes and other equipment including the anaerobic digester itself. Struvite is very hard and can be difficult to physically remove.

There have been a few physical options to solve this issue – replacing pipes, using a hydro-jet or a mechanical grinder, but many lines can be underground and treatment causes significant downtime and cost.

Chemical cleaning is now a viable, cost effective option as it can remove and prevent struvite with minimal downtime and labor resources.
